Custom Invitations: BBQ Edition

stu60thinviteCustom Invites: BBQ Edition!

A large chunk of my projects involve creating invitation designs, but this was my first time creating an invitation for a male client having a backyard BBQ. Instead of pulling out my floral and feminine graphics I got to create something a little more masculine for meat lovers!

The invitation was for my father-in-law’s 60th birthday party. Papa Stu is a much-loved man and so my mother-in-law worked her butt off to throw one helluva birthday bash!

I used cool greys and red as an accent colour, and stuck to fonts with that “grungy” or “cowboy” feel. Add a few fun BBQ graphics and we have ourselves an invitation fit for a BBQ king.

I’m slowly collecting and working on the different invitation designs I’ve created over the years, and am planning to sell them online. When I create custom designs, more time is generally put into the project making the overall cost much higher. These pre-made designs are going to be for the budget-friendly client, giving them an opportunity to purchase a high-quality design at a much lower cost. My goal is to have an online shop up in the next 2 weeks. Stay tuned for more details!

It’s Derby Time, Ladies!

It’s Derby Time, Ladies!

It’s that time of year again where I get asked to make an event poster for Tri-City Roller Derby. This is my second time making a poster for them and needless to say, it’s my new favourite project to do.

This time around, the poster is for their main event: the championship games. Killer Queens are playing Violet Uprising for 3rd place, while Venus Fly Tramps are up against Vicious Dishes for 1st and 2nd place.

I wanted the poster to have a rough, grungy feel while using clean and structured typography. Add some bad-ass, derby babes for the focal point and a dash of pink and we have ourselves a bitchin’ poster.

I used the same design and adapted it to create a Facebook cover ad as well.

Photography was supplied by Joe Mac. Check out his Facebook page for more Derby photos.

Good luck to all the ladies playing, and thanks for letting me create another piece for you!

Creating Rustic Wedding Stationary

Rustic Wedding Stationary

I had the pleasure of creating several pieces of stationary for the wedding of Holly and Tyler Graham that took place earlier this month. This bride knew exactly what she wanted, and lucky for me, she has great taste. It was a lot of fun working together and it always feels great to help a client’s vision come to life.

The design through out all of her stationary pieces was consistent: rustic and simple, letting the fun font choices be the main focal-point of the design. The pieces I created for Holly included the wedding invitation, program, menu and monogram.

I created a vector line-map of the ceremony and reception locations for the back of the Wedding Invitation, as well as a few vine graphics to use through out all of her pieces.

The pieces were printed on a rustic, cardboard stock and the wedding invitations had rounded corners. They printed beautifully and I was thrilled to see another happy client.

Thanks for choosing me to help bring your ideas to life, Holly!

Workin’ with WordPress

Workin’ with WordPress

One of my latest projects of the summer was creating a website for Nick & Dan’s Collision. They offer a wide range of collision repair services and work on vehicles of all makes and models. They’re a family owned business serving the Stratford and St. Marys area for the last 35 years, and have just opened a state-of-the-art facility in Stratford.

We wanted to create a modern, user-friendly site that showcased Nick & Dan’s new facility and gave customers access to important information. They had basic requirements for their site’s functionality; this wasn’t going to be an eCommerce site (they aren’t selling products online) so they really just wanted to create a better online presence than what they previously had.

WordPress is a great option when it comes to creating websites. It can be a very convenient and budget-friendly solution. With the unlimited options of HTML templates and plugins, you can create a customized site in far less time than when developing and coding from scratch. After learning what they were looking for, I chose an appropriate template to work with (the Appointment theme) and did some minor CSS customization to add their branding into the design. The layout of this site is very user-friendly; you can scroll through majority of the site’s information all on the homepage, but also have the option of going to separate pages (About Us, Services etc.) through menus located in the header and footer of the site.

Check out their website for a better look and for more information.
